San Francisco is home to fiercely loyal inhabitants who adore their city as well as the lifestyle it represents. San Francisco is known for its bohemian culture, breathtaking vistas and hills, Mediterranean climate and health consciousness. With the 14th highest population of cities in the United States (estimated at 837,000), it is a wonderful place to call home.
Although San Francisco itself is only 7 square miles, its natural living and healthy vibe reverberates throughout the surrounding area. To stay in shape, outdoor activities are plentiful and include hiking, biking, camping, golfing, yoga and surfing. Take a trip to Fort Point or Ocean Beach, for a try at any one of those activities. More often than not, living in San Francisco means you can bike to work, as the city has commissioned a number of widely used bike paths. It is no wonder that San Francisco has a reputation for being one of the healthiest cities in America.
To compliment physical exercise, San Franciscans also are also involved in conscious and organic eating. Farmers markets and food co-ops are littered throughout the city, making the choice to eat healthier a breeze. Most restaurants also offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options on their menus.
The landscape of San Francisco is just as healthy as its people. Throughout the city, oversized parks such as Golden Gate Park and Presidio are available for public usage, motivating people to spend time outdoors. Moreover, San Francisco recently began an initiative entitled Parket, which converts parking space sized lots into gardens and sitting areas.
In addition to being a healthy living hub, San Francisco is also an undeniable cultural hot spot. It is hard to tire of the endless cultural activities offered in the area which include extensive offerings in art, theater, shopping and dining. San Francisco has a vibrant architectural history and diverse historic neighborhoods, lending to a melding of flavor and style.
William Saroyan, Pulitzer-prized dramatist, wrote of San Francisco,“[it] is art, above all literary art. Every block is a short story, every hill a novel. Every home a poem, every dweller within immortal.” It is hard not to fall in love with a city with such a glorious personality, like the one embodied by San Francisco.
